 Just to say - I hope wherever you are, whatever your circumstances and whatever holidays you do or do not celebrate, that you get a bit of rest and relaxation at the tail end of what has been yet another year and a half. Have a good one. Watch Doctor Who, any Doctor Who, but only if you want to. :D

Thank you - I did! It was a bit of a quiet one, but these days that is pretty much what I am looking for to be honest. :D I hope you had a great one too.

I actually really did like the Xmas special. I realise as a Proper Fan I should probably be a bit grumpy about silly little Christmas goblins with no pseudo-scientific explanation, and the Doctor and companion bursting into song etc, but it was a huge amount of fun I thought. Ncuti Gatwa is incredibly charming and charismatic straight off the bat, a bit like Matt Smith was really. And you know, it was just a bit of fun. Presumably there will be meatier stories in the actual series (and I'm surprised it's going to be in May - I was expecting it to be next autumn tbh - I'm thinking probably debuting on the Saturday of one of the bank holiday weekends just like old times. RTD would appear to have the BBC schedulers just where he wants them. :D)

I very much enjoyed the other specials too, with Beep the Meep and the Toymaker (and Mel!!) and everything. I probably liked the weirder, less accessible middle one the most, but that is me I suppose. I might be less discerning or more laid back about Who these days, or just so grateful for something that actually seems to be trying to be entertaining and engaging and written by somebody who enjoys telling stories as opposed to...well... *waves vaguely at previous era of the show* I've been meaning to post something with my Thoughts, but didn't quite get around to it...! ;)

EDIT: I have seen some people being a bit sniffy about it for timey-wimey reasons, but for some reason the realisation that the falling Xmas tree had actually killed Davina before the Doctor prevented it from happening made me cackle like a drain. Nothing against the lady herself, but it was the cheerfully macabre nature of it I think. The kind of thing that greatly amuses me when Doctor Who does it. XD

I think the general reaction of my flist was to like the middle one of the three 60th specials the best, so I don't think you're alone!

I enjoyed the goblins and the singing and Ncuti and Millie very much and, heh, now we both have (hopefully) an excellent bonus birthday present to look forward to! (V considerate of Russell, really.)

Fans are always sniffy about something! That's our job. I loved it very much, I think, partly because I just didn't want to go back to RTD1 era, so the 60th ones were difficult to appreciate, even though I nevertheless kind of enjoyed them ish anyway, but I was desperate for Fifteen and Ruby and a new start - and, overall, I loved what we got. I thought it boded well for May, as did the little trailer. We shall see! After all, we can both grumble away with the best of them at need.
