Meme!

Because I haven't done a lj meme for a while. I got this one from [livejournal.com profile] akashasheiress .

Give me a character from any fandom, tv show, movie, book you know that I know and I will tell you:

a. My favorite thing about that character.
b. My least favorite thing about that character.
c. One person I would ship them with in their own verse.
d. One crossover ship for them I think would be neat.
e. One crossover universe for them I think would be even neater.
f. Their ship from hell.
g. Their song.
h. The title of their biography or autobiography.
i. The last bad dream they had.
j. How they're gonna shuffle off the mortal coil, if they haven't already.

a. Oh, definitely his ridiculous never-give-up attitude; no matter how many times he loses, he's always back for more. And he always goes for the evil back-stab, even when it isn't in his best interests to do it. Gotta love that.
b. The way he always has to define himself in terms of his "thing" with the Doctor. With his brains and capacity for blackhearted evil, he could achieve great/terrifying things, but he wastes all his time trying to get the Doctor to notice him...
c. Well, he definitely has a...thing going with regard to the Doctor, but I think Delgado Master also had a bit of a soft spot for Jo Grant. Now, whether Jo would be happy about the idea is another question...
d. Hmm. The Master/Servalan from Blakes 7 - who would betray/kill who first? ;D
e. I'd like to see him just show up in some random crime/terrorism drama like the Bill, or Spooks or something, as the apparent baddie of the week. But then Our Heroes realise how out of their depth they are...
f. I think if the Doctor ever did "notice" him, it'd be a bit of a black day for the Master - I think he enjoys all of the stupid plotting and everything far more, and the Doctor would never submit to his will anyway, so it'd all be very disappointing to him I think.
g. Easy. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones.
h. If I Ruled the World...
i. The same dream he has every night; him and the Doctor at the Academy, the time the Doctor turned down his offer of studying together to go and sneak into the Rani's dormitory instead...
j. Come on, now; the Master always survives. ;D

with ref: i: I laughed. Hard. A lot. It may be something to do with that Academy fic I keep not writing (working title: "Pass And I'll Let You Sleep With Me").

Heh - there's definite history there; strange, complex three-way history, I wouldn't mind betting...

I always think of Doctor/Rani as being some sort of student fling; the clever, focused girl and the boy she thought was kind of loveable in a quirky, disorganised sort of way. Eventually, his lack of motivation annoyed here, and she decided she could probably do better. The Master was sort of the third wheel, unable to decide which of the two of them he had the biggest crush on (Doctor, he eventually realised, I think...)

Hmm, that was almost a fanfic in itself...

I'd like to see that fic.:D

I've got this song that for some reason screams Doctor/Master/Rani to me. In fact, this particular band has several fitting songs:

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Heheh - definitely! Good song, too!

I don't really know whether Doctor/Rani/Master is still current - it's something that's very much in the past for all of them (the Rani is, at the end of the day, much more rational and dispassionate than the Master - her science is her first love, not some geeky boy she went to school with! :D)
thisbluespirit: (Servalan)

The Master and Servalan is a lovely crossover idea! I really don't know who would win that one.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, it's probably too close to call. I've been trying to rewatch all of the Blakes7 I've seen and watch the ones I've never seen over the past few months, and yes, it's gold. And almost certainly takes place in the Whoniverse too - crossovers are probably almost obligatory, I'd say. :-D

Absolutely!!! :-D I am so impressed by it. I never thought it would be any good, and it was fantastic, and so eerily related to DW it's unreal. Gareth Thomas and Tom Baker's belief that Blake and the Doctor should pass in corridors all the time makes perfect sense.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It does - and they should have! Didn't Terry Nation want the Daleks to show up originally as the big alien threat at the end of S2, but the BBC kiboshed the idea?

I think the fact that the Doctor doesn't really hate him frustrates the Master to no end. Four might've been the Doctor who felt the most antagonistism towards him.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Four didn't really see the funny side, did he? And I don't really blame him - crispy!Master was definitely the least likeable of the Master's various incarnations, I'd say (yes, even including Roberts!). But yeah, the fact that the Doctor is too controlled and compassionate to really give the Master that reaction he wants - the one that'll prove to him that he's really got under the Doctor's skin - that drives him mad, I think.
ext_23531: (four/romana - reading)

[identity profile] akashasheiress.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be true that Four was the most decidedly heterosexual of the early Doctors.;D I kid. Still, yes, Four seemed to actually mean it when he wanted to be rid of the Master.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He was, though, wasn't he? Four had a sort of Bohemian machismo all his own...no wonder Romana fell hard for him (or did he fall hard for her? Both, perhaps?) ;D

But yeah, none too keen on the old Master - maybe he just saw him more clearly than the other Doctor's could - saw past the kid they used to know at the Academy and saw the monster he had become?

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Another thought: why does Doctor/Master slashfic alway seem to show the Doctor as the submissive one, when actually he's the one who deals from a position of strength in their relationship (the Doctor's not the one running round desperately trying to get the other one to notice him, is he?)?
ext_23531: (one)

[identity profile] akashasheiress.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a very good point - the Doctor is probably the one person the Master would get off on being dominated by rather than vice-versa. Erm, now I'm getting images...

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-04-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think it's another indication that the whole thing can never end in a way that will satisfy the Master - whatever is "wrong" with the Master, whatever his "itch" is, it can never be "scratched", so he'll just go on and on forever, getting ever more desperate and more mad...

I maybe don't really wholeheartedly accept RTD's idea of the drums in the Master's head, but it's certainly a good metaphor for the above - the never-ending quest for the impossible that he follows.
