I've become something of a born again Ainley fan, you know, in the past few months. I saw Logopolis and the Five Doctors for the first time in ages and he sort of won me over with his hammy villainy. "Peoples of the universe, please attend carefully..." remains my favourite Master line ever (as I think I said on DbyA only yesterday - mainly for the expression on his face as he's saying it); I practically squee'd when Simm sort-of quoted it. Which is to say, I can find something to enjoy in any Ainley story, even the bad ones. Mark of the Rani remains one of the bad ones, imo, but the tyrannosaur and the brain juice line and random George Stevenson cameo do give it some moments. Time and the Rani, now...*shudders in sympathy*
I haven't seen the Warriors of the Deep DVD yet, but I can imagine how much stuff they found to mock in the commentary. They are deeply amusing in the ones I have heard of theirs, so it's something I'm going to have to check out at some point. Sylv and Sophie give good commentary too - I think them and Nicholas Parsons on the Fenric DVD is a good one (even if Parsons is a bit bewildered by the whole idea of Doctor Who fandom - can't blame him really XD), as is Survival. The commentary on Battlefield is good too - mainly because of Ben Aaronovitch's utter horror at the shortcomings of his own script - you've got to feel for the poor guy.
