Seriously, Livejournal's foremost Doctor Who fanfiction reccing community needs fresh reccers - if you haven't already, please read the below post by the comm's admin [personal profile] nonelvis and give it your serious consideration:

Originally posted by [personal profile] nonelvis at WE ARE ESSENTIALLY OUT OF RECCERS. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
I hate to capslock at you, but seriously: we're out. [personal profile] clocketpatch will be reccing for the next couple of weeks, and [personal profile] ffutures has graciously volunteered for another stint in September, but other than that, my reccing calendar is empty.

Please, please, please: if you've ever thought about reccing but have never stepped forward, now's the time. If you've recced before and want to try again, now's the time. If you're not sure if you want to rec, contact me, and I'll talk you into it answer any questions you have about it. And if you have friends who might want to rec, please share this post with them.

Reccing periods last two weeks; complete rules and sign-up instructions in this post. Thanks, everyone, for any help you can offer here.

Tumblr, Facebook, Google+, and other users reading this: you don't need a LiveJournal account to rec! If you're interested in reccing, you can comment in the sign-up post, leave me an Ask, or email me at nonelvis42 on Gmail. (Note: if you're a Facebook user who wants to volunteer, please contact me by email; I have no Facebook account, and LJ doesn't send OpenID users comment notifications, so I have no reliable way of reaching you beyond email.)

Well, the names have now been named in the case of the [community profile] eleventyfest fanwork exchange, so I can now reveal and thank the people who wrote the lovely fics I was reccing last week. Please if you haven't, go and give them a read. They're all great:

Title: Shenanigans
By: [personal profile] ljgeoff
Recipient: JJPor
Rating: T
Character(s)/Ship(s): Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Canton Everett Delaware III, Jack Harkness
Summary: Canton wasn't expecting aliens when he walked into the bar.
Content Notes: None

Title: Bounce
By: [personal profile] nancybrown
Words: 5,470
Type: Gen
Age: Teen
Characters: The Doctor (11th), Amy/Rory, Vastra/Jenny, Strax, Canton Everett Delaware III
Author's Note: A mysterious device affects the lives of the Doctor and his friends.

Title: Trouble in the Deep
By: [personal profile] lyras
Words: 4,940
Type: Gen, F/F, F/M
Age: Teen
Characters: The Doctor (11th), River, Amy/Rory, Vastra/Jenny, Strax, Silurians
Author's Note: Something wicked is afoot under London and Vastra can't stop dreaming. Jenny calls in the Doctor, River calls in Amy and Rory, and the problem turns out to be much bigger than anyone imagined.

And this is my own effort, made for [personal profile] akashasheiress. I'm going to post it to the Teaspoon at some point, but it was written in a bit of a hurry and there are a couple of things I want to revise about it before I do, so it might not be for a while. Anyway:

Title: Weak
By: [personal profile] jjpor
Words: 10,241
Type: Gen, F/M
Age: Teen
Characters: Eleventh Doctor/River, Amy/Rory, Brian Williams, Ace, various others mentioned or referenced.
Author's Note: Written for akashasheiress as part of the Eleventyfest ficathon. The Doctor's definitely going to have that talk with River. You know, *that* talk. Honestly, he is. Any day now. Any day now...

I almost missed this one as a result of basically not being very attentive when it came to checking on the comm, but I'm extremely glad it was brought to my attention, because it's great. :D

Why you should check it out: As with the ones I recced the other night, it's really well written and ticks numerous of my fannish boxes. It's got Amy and Rory in New York post-Angels, doing far more than making the best of it and being quite adorable about it too. It's got a very well-drawn Captain Jack capturing something of the inner complexity going on behind the façade he keeps up most of the time. It's got drunk!Canton. It's got a couple of cheeky in-passing crossover shout-outs. Good stuff all round, really. I've had an extremely good Eleventy Fest, all told. :)

I don't know who wrote them for me yet (all will be revealed next week), but I'd like to recommend the two excellent fics I have been gifted as part of the [community profile] eleventyfest fanworkathon:

Title: Bounce

Words: 5,470

Author's Note: A mysterious device affects the lives of the Doctor and his friends.

Why you should read it: Because it's great. It's basically a compendium of some of my current favourite things/obsessions: "Classic" Eleven+Amy+Rory; the Consulting Detective, wife and butler; Mr Delaware being basically the coolest dude ever. And it's really well written, and even includes glimpses of Historical Torchwood and an ace in-passing X-Files reference too. Good stuff. Ticks all my boxes.

Author's Note: Something wicked is afoot under London and Vastra can't stop dreaming. Jenny calls in the Doctor, River calls in Amy and Rory, and the problem turns out to be much bigger than anyone imagined.

Why you should read this one too: Because it's also great, again ticks numerous of my idiosyncratic boxes. And it's a well-thought-out story with a mystery that only deepens as it goes on before being resolved in a way that makes more sense the more you think about it. As well as exploring something of the condition of the Doctor and the life he leads, through looking at the relationships of those around him. The characterisation of Jenny in particular is great. Also good stuff.

Well, go on, then, read them! :)

It comes to my attention that that fine Livejournal institution Calufrax is again on the point of running short of reccers. I speak as someone who was late getting into the reccing game myself - don't be the fool I was! If you read or post Doctor Who fanfiction on the A Teaspoon And An Open Mind site, it behooves you to support this valuable comm - a genuine resource for all those who are into that kind of thing. So I urge you again, if you are at all able, to go over there and sign up. And if you're not able, I ask you to consider putting the word out on your own LJ - you can do punning post titles incorporating the word "rec" in some "amusing" fashion and everything (not "Oedipus Recs", though - I'm bagsying that one for the next time I make a post about reccing!).

Thinking on, at the risk of getting serious, even political, for a second - if you value online internet fandom in particular and the internet as it exists now in general (and who among you doesn't?), and you are also a UK subject, you could do a lot worse than signing the following online petition and spreading the word about it: https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20685. ACTA is to the rest of the world pretty much what the infamous SOPA/PIPA are to the US, but quite possibly a sight worse. My flister [livejournal.com profile] agapi42 explains it in some detail, and more concisely than I probably would, here.

I've been meaning to post this rec for a couple of days, but it kept slipping my mind. Basically, when I was reading a lot of Brig fic the other night, this fic from [livejournal.com profile] calapine was linked to from one of them. It's not strictly Brig fic, although he gets a very nice mention, but it still gave me a bit of a lump in the old throat at the time of reading:

Because I don't do this anything like often enough (and because I really liked these fics I read tonight):

First up is  Ad Astra Per Anatis by [livejournal.com profile] roachpatrol  , which features Seven and Ace. And ducks. It's the kind of thing I like - Seven and Ace being Seven-y and Ace-y at each other, and well worth a read if you like that kind of thing too. Or even if you don't! Here it is:

roachpatrol.livejournal.com/54211.html

And here, as part of my good buddy [livejournal.com profile] clocketpatch 's inspired [livejournal.com profile] eleven_romana  ficathon (which you may remember me pimping around back in the day), we have An Idea of Synchrony by [livejournal.com profile] honeynoir . And it's a corker! Seriously, if you like Romana, if you like Eleven, even if you're one of those weird people who doesn't see the inherent rightness of Eleven/Romana-ness (kidding!), then read it. Read it now:

Part One: honeynoir.livejournal.com/66411.html

Part Two: honeynoir.livejournal.com/66679.html

Part Three: honeynoir.livejournal.com/66904.html
