Well, I liked that. I am pretty easy to please these days, I'll admit, and I'm not sure I completely followed all of the timey-wimeyness in this story on a first viewing, but RTD seems to be offering the possibility of explanations later (based on last year's finale, and all the RTD finales of yesteryear, how likely do we think that is??). The robots and their retro rocketship were fun, albeit murderous. Something about their design was very Oldschool RTD era, or possibly Sarah Jane Adventures. I like the idea of the Doctor just having a whole missing adventure in the middle of this one a la the Christmas hotel stay but this time offscreen. Alas Sasha 55, we hardly knew ye. Alan the Incel and his motivations were a bit on the nose, but then again his real life counterparts aren't exactly complex, nuanced characters are they? Rusty continues to punch in mostly the right directions imho.
Varada Sethu is great as Belinda. I thought she was really good in Boom! as well last season (and in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor which I might wax rhapsodic about a bit when its own second season starts in a couple of weeks...assuming it lives up to the huge act to follow that was the first season). I liked Belinda as a character, and I liked her somewhat combative relationship with the Doctor. Not instant best friends, and I found that quite interesting. There's a sort of thoughtlessness at times about Gatwa's Doctor (I've given up on trying to remember what number he is :D), a tendency to act rashly and then acutely rue the unexpected consequences. But that's kind of true of all of them, isn't it? It was called out a bit here. Gatwa always plays those moments really well. Some seem a bit put off by this Doctor's readiness to shed tears, but it always seems very true and affecting to me. Gatwa remains a hugely charismatic performer, who is probably going to go on to bigger things sooner rather than later, so we should make the most of him while we can.
Anything else? Ange from Eastenders is still showing up being mysterious. That's about all I can think of for now.
