Yes, I think you're right. It's a sad day, though, when the Doctor can't show a bit of grit without having thousands of fanboys/girls crying foul. And as you point out, Ten did worse himself while hypocritically whinging about it. One of the many things I like about the Eleven era is the way that it feels like a throwback to the old series, in this and other ways.
