Fic: Protect and Survive, Part III: Rockets' Red Glare

More nuclear skulduggery, more ill-advised Dr Strangelove in-jokes, and more Seven and Ace, getting up to something a little bit foolhardy even by their standards. Obviously, I have no real knowledge of what the United States' nuclear launch procedures actually involve, and have therefore embellished somewhat what little information the intrawebs have to offer. Oh, and a bit of Four continuity fanw*nkery just for the hell of it; actually, it is kind of relevant to the story. Enjoy, if that's the right word...

Aha! I wondered if there would be. :-D

I'm off to see if I can post Ch 1 of my very ill-advised Fetch Priory fic. (It's UNIT: Transition. I think. The title was the last thing...), so let's see who gets put through first. :-p

Well, indeed...ooh, I'm quite looking forward to that, you know; I really enjoyed the alt-version with Leela. A bit more Colonel Crichton will do me very nicely indeed.

Yes, it was slightly depressing having to write it without her. In an odd way, that one really made sense and everyone was much more depressed without her being there. Hope you're not disappointed.

Still, no sign of either!

Oh no, not a disappointment at all. In fact, it's all very intriguing; I liked Crichton and the post-Brig UNIT too, victims of Torchwood and their machinations. I don't think the bounders are going to get away with it, though!

Thank you, that's kind of you. I feel a bit guilty about the dog; the main thing was changed was simply that lack of Leela also seemed to mean a lack of hope for Colby and so he put himself in a stupid position, so I used the dog murder to set the mood & then it became a plot point & I couldn't undo it. Oh, the murders we commit in fic... (I feel fine if it's a character's journey; if I kill someone for sheer reasons of plot, it counts as murder.)

And, the bounders were never going to quite get away with it. ;-) I wasn't going to write it, because it seemed likely to kill Colby (you'll need to wait and see whether I found a way around that. Or not. Heh). But it suddenly made sense of two other abandoned stories, so I had to do it.

And Crichton's problems are worse than he realises (of course). Mind you, I do wish it wasn't quite so 70s UNIT in that all the 'villains' are patently obvious but at least I can claim I'm true to the source...

How is Protect adn Survive coming along? I really hope you're not going to stop with this one because it's a bit bleak to leave us hanging around too long. :-D

It's coming along - it might even get worse before it gets better, if I'm honest. I hope the motives of the, er, plotter behind the plot seem halfway convincing, because we're supposed to believe that he/she/it had a reason (in his/her/its own mind, anyway) for doing the horrible, horrible thing he/she/it has done to Earth. I'm sort of seeing this big confrontation between the antagonist and the Doctor where they argue...well, don't want to give away too much at this point.

Yeah, I sort of agree with you about needlessly killing off characters; sometimes, it has to be done, but we don't have to feel good about it (sounds like how Seven might rationalise it!). Anyway, looking forward to the next bit. :)

It's Seven - you have to have a big argument between him and the villain. He does like talking people to death, after all. ;-)

I shall be patient!

The 'next bit' has been up since last night. :-p

The bit after will appear sometime over the next few hours. It's all written; just not typed. I'm a bit worried Ch3 might look like a lot of talk, now. Writing it I know what's going on, but whether or not readers will lose patience... Oh, dear. :-)

Yes, he does; literally, in some cases...

Ah, my lack of Teaspoon attentiveness comes back to bite me again! XD I shall have to read those forthwith. I can hardly talk about writing long talky bits that might lose the readers, as you well know! I'm sure you're worrying about nothing.
