Yes, a day behind on the old meme again!

Day Eleven: Your Favourite Season (Classic or New)

Now, this is a really difficult one because there are quite a few contenders, and unlike the favourite stories questions, there aren't any obvious ones that leap to the fore, because I think there a few really strong Who seasons. S7 is consistently excellent, with some of the most thoughtful and mature stories in the programme's history. All of the Four seasons are excellent in their own different ways, and Seasons 16-18 are especial favourites of mine, for slightly different reasons (yes, even S18). Season 5/31/whatever we're calling it also recently blew me away. And then there's Seven...
 

So, bascially, for a variety of reasons, I eventually narrowed it down to Seasons 25 and 26. I love Seven, as I may have already made clear in this meme, and I love Seven and Ace in particular, and I think the last two series of classic Who really do represent a run of very strong, well-written and thoughtful stories that ensure the old series finished on a highpoint after allegedly losing its way in the mid 80s. The question, however,  having told myself that I was going to provide straight answers to all these questions as they seem to require, is which one?

So, I thought on it, and I decided...Season 25. And no, not just because it has Remembrance of the Daleks in it!

Don't get me wrong, S26 is probably just as good in objective terms, and on a different day I might have picked differently, but S25 has Remembrance, it has Happiness Patrol, it has Greatest Show in the Galaxy. Now, as it happens, I like Battlefield and Survival, perhaps objectively the two weaker stories of S26, more than I like Silver Nemesis, but in S25's favour, I will reiterate: It has Remembrance, it has Happiness Patrol, it has Greatest Show in the Galaxy!

So, that's my final word and I'm sticking to it. Have some moments:

Yay for S25! Why did you say "even S18," though? I think that's a better season/series than S17. S17 had "City of Death," yes, but the rest were... bad, though I can never resist "Oh, look! Rocks!" from "Destiny of the Daleks." S18 seemed stronger, though it did introduce Adric. :-) Just some thoughts, pardon me...

Oh, I have nothing against S18, but I know some people do, with it being the beginning of the dreaded JNT era, and with Chris Bidmead's seeming determination to suck all of the fun out of the programme. I think this is wrong though; I certainly like it very much. I even like Adric in it; I think the relationship between him, Four and Romana (as long as it lasts, anyway) is very interesting, and I really like him and Four as a duo. I think the quality of stories probably is mostly superior to S17 (City of Death excluded), but I love S17 for its sense of fun, dare I say its silliness. I like S18 for different reasons; as you say, some strong stories, and an overall story arc, even if RTD and Moffat like to pretend that they invented those for Who... I'd even rate Warrior's Gate as one of my favourite Who stories of the lot; it'd make my top ten, probably. And State of Decay too! So no, no disrespect intended to S18! :D

I'd vote for S7 in a heartbeat. Liz!! Liz'n'the Brig with their delicious UST. Liz'n'the Brig'n'Three with THEIR delicious UST!

S7 is certainly a very strong contender for a number of reasons; as you say, Liz, the Brig, Three, Liz/Brig/Three, great stories, yes... You don't even miss the lack of Delgado, it's that good. To be honest, though, while I did opt for an answer in the end, this is one of those questions I'd probably answer differently if you asked it me on a different day, or just fence-sit, conceivably... :D
