Fic: 165 Eaton Place

It was my associate lost_spook who suggested a Whoniverse/Upstairs Downstairs crossover when I was waxing lyrical to her about the latter show on Livejournal recently. Mainly, though, it was an excuse to write more about Gerald and Harriet, the two WW1-era Torchwood agents seen in the ep “To the Last Man”. As for the nature of their opponent here, it’s probably worth mentioning that the minor Upstairs Downstairs character Lord Charles Gilmour was played by a pre-Who Anthony Ainley… Obviously, none of the television programmes and characters featured here belong to me in any way, shape or form.

LOL How often is that true for writers, though?!

The difference being, I usually act on these "good ideas"... ;D

Heh - you know what I thought of this! :-) I love your TW fic very much, but it's great also when you let them have some fun as well. :-D And those I reocgnised from the cross, you had down perfectly.

And, it struck me, I wrote a really obscure crossover yesterday, but for no good reason at all. Lack of sleep, due to moths, I tell you. When I've finished the UNIT fic, I'll have to see whether it made any sense...

Thanks again! Yes, they need more fun in their lives, those TW folks... :D

A _really_ obscure crossover? Where?? See, some good can come of giant moth attacks after all... :D

I'm afraid that the nearest I've come to Upstairs, Downstairs was in the book of Ronnie Barker's scripts, which contains a sketch parodying it. That, and I was vaguely aware that Pauline Collins was in it. I've got a theory about characters played by her, which may find its way into fic at some point.

Yeah, I've been watching the Saturday morning repeats on ITV3 for a couple of months now, and have got quite into it as a result. And a theory, you say? Hopefully an outlandish one! :D Wasn't she at some point in the running to be a permanent companion during the Two era?

Twice. When she played Sam Briggs they wanted her to stay on, and she declined; so we got Victoria. Then, when Deborah Watling left, they offered her the part of Zoƫ, but she turned that down too. Or so I've read.

Yeah, the first one was the one I'd read about...didn't know about the Zoe thing. It's hard to imagine Zoe played by anybody else, but then we'd be saying the same thing if they'd gone with the different casting, so...

It's one of those things where I'd like to be able to get DVDs from alternate universes (along with universes where missing episodes survived, universes where they made The Masters of Luxor, universes where Patrick Troughton lived long enough to record DVD commentaries...)

True, true. Especially true in the last instance! I'd like to see the completed version of the original Shada, just to see whether it was a lost classic as a lot of people assume, or a bit of a dud as I sneakily suspect...half those stories Chris Bidmead ended up ditching from S18, S27...if only to see McCoy regenerating into (allegedly) Richard Griffiths!

Capital idea for a crossover! Well done; well done, indeed.

Unfortunately, I don't think I've seen Anthony Ainley in Upstairs, Downstairs (by the way, what do you think of it being resurrected with Rose in the 1930s?) but since my mom and sister love the show, I've definitely seen enough scenes to recognize the household.

Thank you, thank you very much, the idea though was lost_spook's!

Ainley's only in a handful of episodes at the most, a very minor character, but he naturally seems to jump out at the watching who fan, because, well, he's the Master... XD

But yeah, it's a good show, I think. I've only started watching it quite recently but have become drawn into it very quickly.
