I don't presume to call it a meme, because to be a meme it has to be adopted by others, and then spread, but something for members of my flist with too much time on their hands:

1, Go to this link:
http://www.koveras.org/thriller/

2. Randomly generate one (1) cheesy made-up thriller title

3. Write a drabble for your fandom of choice that in some way relates to the title generated. Be warned, some of them are a bit...non-obvious

4. If you're not fed up yet, repeat until you are!

The Babylon Symbol

“And here,” the guide continued, “is a unique artefact unearthed by the 1926 Warren Expedition to Mesopotamia.”

It was a clay tablet, surface covered with cramped angular writing.

“It still defies all efforts at decipherment,” the guide informed the tour party. “In fact…”

“Bread, Milk, Eggs, Teabags…”

“I’m sorry?”

The young man in the bowtie ignored the guide, still scribbling notes: “Custard, Fish Fingers…”

“Yes, very amusing,” the guide murmured.

The young man returned to his waiting companion, waving the piece of paper: “Amy, we can go! I’ve found the shopping list!”

“Good,” said Amy. “Now don’t lose this one!”

I don't know why you feel you don't write drabbles well. This was great!

I think I might be getting better... ;D My problem is I have whatever the textual equivalent of running off at the mouth is, but lately I've been trying to be a bit sparser and more concise in my prose. Well, I was - I haven't written much since before Xmas... I'm glad you liked this anyway! :)

LOl - perfect!! :-)

Also: 1. It just gave me The Phantom Menace. Hmmm.. Oh, dear...

2. Pst, am not sure decipherment is a word? Decryption? Of course, it probably is a word, and who says the guy talking isn't prone to that sort of thing anyway...

Hmm...think someone might already have used that one... ;D

Yeah, with hindsight decryption was probably the word I was looking for... I think I was so amazed that my spellchecker let me have decipherment that I kept it.

Glad you liked it! :)

For the dissenting opinion, every dictionary I have within easy reach believes that "decipherment" is a word.

And, speaking from personal experience, "deciphered" is the word I've always heard used when it's a question of hieroglyphs and other ancient writing. I think "decryption" only applies to writing which has been deliberately obscured.

I stand corrected then; I only wondered, cos it just sounded odd in context when I reread it. *blushes*

I should really try not to make any comments until I have a brainback, but hwo knows when that will be?

To be fair, I think I independently reinvented "decipherment" while groping about for a word to use. If it's right, it's only by coincidence! :D

Ahaahhh... Thank you very much for the info! Obviously I _meant_ it like that all along. Obviously... ;D

What's wrong with The Phantom Menace? Plenty of menacing phantoms in the world, and—

Hang on a moment. We've had this conversation before :-)

I got The Octopus Directive. Which is just awesome enough that I must think on this.

(Also, do you mind if I friend you? I keep running into you being improbably cool, but I'm kind of shy because you're sort of a BNF in my corner of Who-dom...)

I am?! And improbably cool?! You can friend me just for saying that! ;D

No, seriously, friend away - I'm always friending people at the drop of a hat... ;D

The Octopus Directive sounds too cool for a mere drabble, I agree. All I'll say is, keep away from The Hades War - that title's mine until I can think of a story to go with it! XD
