The 30 Days of Who Meme: Days 22 and 23 (Who Related Fan Site/Who Related YouTube Video)

Yes, by absolutely no popular demand whatsoever, I try to complete the 30 Days of Who meme sometime within my own lifetime! And you know how it is - you wait for ages and two come along at once:

Day 22: A Who-Related Fan Site

As with Highlanders, so with Doctor Who message boards; there can be only one! My home from home on't'internet for about three years now, a nice little community of Who-minded folks who are in my experience always welcoming of newcomers and always in need of new blood (not in a bad sense...like that village in that episode of Torchwood or anything... O.o). I present:

Day 23: A Who-Related YouTube Video

So many vids, so little time.... Decisions, decisions... Right now, I have a liking for multi-Doctor vids that try to provide something of an overview and a flavour of the whole forty-odd-year...thing that is Who. Of which there are many fine examples, I think you'll agree, but this one by calapine has stuck in my head from the time I first saw it. Maybe it's partially the song or more precisely the way the visuals are edited to fit the song, but mainly I think it's that it's so evocative of what Doctor Who is - and it packs in a lot of my favourite little moments from over the series's run. There are plenty of bits that make me grin, and more than one bit that makes me..."get something in my eye", because I'm daft like that. The only thing it doesn't have is Eleven, because it's a couple of years old, but there are plenty of Eleven vids out there by now. Anyway, I think it's excellent and I find myself going back to it regularly. Enjoy:

I think the threat of kickings is greatly exaggerated. I've never seen any kicking going on. The more worrying possibility is the one identified by lost_spook below, that you might somehow end up writing fic involving cake and other disturbing elements...

And, What About Everything - yes. I was torn when she had The Black Parade up as well, because that was amazing and made me cry every time. And the new multi-era one The Adventure is giving it a run for its money. But, yeah, that one. Or if not, one of her others.

Indeed - a lot of extremely good vids, and it's something about the particular moments she picks to include. The way you find yourself remembering all the great stories and scenes and the emotions you feel when you watch them and the memories. Because watching oldschool Who is such a sentimental experience for me sometimes, at least for the 80s stuff, and Seven especially, remembering where I was and what I was doing when I was watching most of them. Yes... But it was a toss-up between this one and the Black Parade one for me too. I went with this one because I think it's the single Who fanvid I've watched the most times by now.

:loL: I don't think it could have been a toss up with The Black Parade for you, not now - it hasn't been there for about 18 months! (I miss it a lot).

But, yes, she really does, you're exactly right about that & the moments she uses. There are some other great vids around, but Calapine might be some sort of DW vidding genius, just possibly. :-)

Yes. I know it's silly, but I have missed it a lot. I am now wondering if it is something to do with me having a YouTUbe account, because my bookmark for it didn't work & even though it cameup on Calapine's list of vids, it didn't actually play. And I did try it quite a lot of times. A membres only vid? I dunno, but srsly, it was lovely to see it again.

I know I've watched it quite a few times since the other day - it's one you never tire of, I think. So glad you enjoyed it. :) I don't pretend to know about the technical ins-and-outs of Youtube, but I get the impression it's about as user-friendly as Livejournal (ie, not always to as great an extent as it probably should be - although that could just be people complaining on the internets, as people tend to do).

YouTUbe seems reasonably straight-forward to me (but then I've more or less master LJ, ever since I stopped doing the foolhardy thing of trying to use the text editor and discovered that there is no LJ cut or html thingy you can't simply Google. Funnily enough, the nets are full of people knowing about hypertext and such like. :lol:) The most likely thing I suppose is that it has been blocked in the UK but not elsewhere for copyright reasons and is now okayed again. Unless you could watch it the whole time, in which case, as I said, the only thing I've done differently lately is get my own account.

Anyway, Calapine is a genius, whatever the fail of me or the internet. ;-)

I don't know actually, because it had been a while since I last watched it before I started going through my old bookmarks looking for vids the other day, so it could well be that it's been blocked just to the UK for a while in between times. Whatever, I think we can agree that Calapine has a rare talent for that kind of thing. :)

I've got the Black Parade on my dead laptop, I might be able to get it off with a bit of TLC if you'd like... (actually, you all mentioning it has made me rather want to, because it is such a lovely vid)
