I picked this up from [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat  via [livejournal.com profile] lizbee 's journal, and I think it's kind of cool:

1. Comment to this post with "I surrender!" and I'll assign you the basis of some TV show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. Create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them.
3. Add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that you want.
4. Post to your own journal.

I surrender! (It doesn't take much...)

very cool meme.

It is, isn't it? :)

SHE's a temporally-displaced Victorian housemaid! HE's a slightly bewildered yet quietly heroic research scientist! Together, they fight crime!

I can come up with another one if that one's too obvious/too boring for you! ;-D

But that one's a sprawling novel in my head. :-(

I'll think about it (but I'm already worrying about even hypothetical TV versions...)

Can I haz other option pls? (I'll spell properly if you do. Oh, wait P-R-O-P- *cough*). This meme could be a plan: come up with TV idea, get someone else to develop it, sell it to TV company and get a cut of the profits. How does that sound?

(btw, am grinning at the 'quietly heroic' bit, because it's usually a Bad Idea when Nat gets driven to heroics. If I can get the AU version done, there's a fun translation of that to real-life... Erm, well, I think it's a fun translation, I should say.)

Still, a bad workperson complains about the tools - I shall be off, doing what I can with the rotten idea...

Well, I never said he was _good_ at the heroics, did I? ;-D

Yes, that's my plan involving this meme anyway, LOL!

Er, okay, if you want another prompt, how's abouts... Our protagonist wakes up in a swanky hotel room with no recollection of who s/he is or how s/he got there. Oh, and there's a dead body they don't recognise in the en suite bathroom as well...

Okay!

One-off drama (or possibly very, very strange ongoing series.)

I just thought you can add 'together, they fight crime!' to almost anything, can't you? If you add it to your second prompt, it becomes a whole new ball game.

(I am strange, I know.)

Well, I never said it was an _inanimate_ dead body, did I?! ;D Run with it! Run with it! It'd be the ultimate in quirky buddy-buddy cop shows! ;D

SHE's an amnesiac! HE's deceased! Together they fight CRIME!

LOL - no, really, I am actually LOLing like a maniac right now, lord knows what the neighbours think!

Heh. You can do it to anything, look:

One was an apple, the other an orange... Together they FIGHT CRIME! (And rotten bananas.)

He's a shabby, faded armchair; she's an elegant coffee table with a penchant for glossy magazines... Together they fight crime!

Some of them are less exciting than others, though, admittedly.

(Oh, and when I said I was grinning over your Nat-heroics description, I meant in a good way, because it was only because of something you said ages ago that made me think about that at all - & it really helped when I got stuck right at the end of the AU, so I was amused you mentioned it again.)

You know, this may actually BE how they devise new TV detective shows... It would explain a lot.

Heheh - well, glad to have been of assistance! He is a hero, on the quiet, even if he's got a bit of a slow-burning fuse; effectiveness or otherwise have nothing to do with heroic status, I'd argue. And I'd also argue that Nat is probably someone you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of, because if you'd done something bad enough to get him, of all people, after you, then it must have been really bad and you will thorougly deserve the comeuppance coming your way soon...

SHE's Queen Victoria! HE's Karl Marx! Together...

Yes, you can do it for anything... :D

Heh, now I want to see that one!

(And John's randomiser gave me among other silly things an out of work former first lady from beyond the grave...).

Heh. To be honest, if you got on the wrong side of Nat, he'd probably just get frustrated and kick things after you were gone. (Tilly, now... ;-D) But, yes, it helped. One of those 'I have everything written but the actual link to the ending' (Why does that seem to happen so often? Or possibly it's just my lack of planning details.)

TV Tropes seems to agree.

Tilly and Nat didn't like the idea. They argued. This will take time:
Tilly: And why are we fighting crime instead of at least having adventures investigating other time-related anomalies?
Nat: Because that’s all people on TV ever do?
Tilly: Well, that doesn’t make sense. You could do something about astronomy instead.
Nat: No, I think Patrick Moore has that covered.
Tilly: Well, that takes the cake. Do we need to fetch DS Reynolds so we have someone who knows about crime?
Nat: Maybe the Colonel would want to be one of those amateur detectives? He’s retired; he’s got the time on his hands.
Tilly: Somehow, I don’t think so…
Nat: No, worse luck. I’m not even much good at alien dissection, so I’m not the right sort of scientist for this. I’m not doing autopsies.
Tilly: I should think not.
Nat: And, what murders are we supposed to solve? The last episode of the series would mean me going after what happened to my Dad and it couldn’t be just falling into the river in this sort of thing. I’d rather not do that, either.
Tilly: Maybe they’ll be historical murders.
Nat: I’m not doing any grave robbing. And they’d be better off with a historian, or at least a palaeontologist for that. We could ask Professor Colby.

Heheh - very nice! And all fair objections, too! I've given you another prompt, if you want it...although it is a bit derivative, I feel, and maybe not the kind of thing you'd like, but...see what you think of it...

Colonel Crichton as an amateur detective in his retirement? Colby, Nat and Tilly in the same story? Couple of fic bunnies for you there, if you want them (although I suspect the last thing you want is more fic bunnies)

*shoves bunnies in hatch with cyanide*

(All right, maybe not, but that makes three bunnies I've had flung at me in one evening - and the other was a suggested sarcasm-fest between Ros Myers of Spooks and Avon from B7.)

Actually, I wrote a DW fic called Emptiness (which I deleted off Teaspoon a while back when I was being obsessively tidy) which began with the same premise. Except the body turned out to be alive on further investigation. (And wasn't in the bath, you'll be relieved to know, as this was DW.) :-D

Poor bunnies!

Well, obviously great minds think alike...or not, as the case may be... :D

I'm sort of thinking that maybe it's best practice to keep your zombie police partner immersed in ice cubes in the bathtub or something, for the purposes of preservation...

Hey, this was supposed to be a prompt for you, not me! :-D

Well, it was your idea. :-D

Plus, I don't think we'd ever go about tackling a prompt in the same way, so why worry? My version is completely different. Or it will be; it's become horribly complex for a hypothetical meme-induced TV show. Such is life.

From: [identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com
Complex? I like it! I'm trying to cast a New York subway train-driver, and discovering that my knowledge of actors includes a big blind spot when it comes to ones who would be suitable to play New York subway train-drivers... :D

Heh. I reserve the right to wimp out on the casting if need be. I'm always completely hopeless at those 'dream cast your fave novel' type conversations.

So am not much help with NY subway train drivers. You could have 'one of those US actors who turn up in minor parts in absolutely everything'?

Hmmm, someone who possess a certain dramatic stillness and doesn't mind not having any lines... :D
