jjpor: (Fezzes are cool!)

I say "possible" because as I sit down to write this I can't actually think of an awful lot to say about Curse of the Black Spot...

I didn't post anything on Day of the Moon, even though there was plenty of interesting food for thought coming out of that episode, mainly because I spent most of last week discussing that food for thought in various places other than my Livejournal and didn't have the time or inclination to do it all twice. I'm sure you know how it is.

Anyway, having managed to stall for time for a whole paragraph...

I Finally Get Down To Some SPOILERY Business )

jjpor: (Fezzes are cool!)

A bit delayed with my full reaction, what with one thing and another, but having thought things over a bit I can now say that late on Saturday afternoon, or possibly early on Saturday evening, I witnessed something that thrilled me, shocked me, frightened me, made think, in short, about television in a different way to how I did before.

But enough gushing about Don't Scare the Hare! What about Doctor Who?

SPOILERS!!! )

Well, if you've ever read any of my fanfic, as I think a lot of you on my flist probably have, you'll probably have some vague, unconfirmed inkling about what the answer to this one is going to be... ;)

Day Twenty-One: Your Doctor Who OTP

Or will you? I could suprise you totally and say Irongron/Bloodaxe, keeping up yesterday's Time Warrior theme. Or Glitz/Dibber! It certainly makes more sense to me than Glitz/Ace...

Read on and find out the shocking truth! And read my pompous, preachy musings too! :D )

So, I just thought I'd continue this one, despite it being about six months since Day 19. If I pick up my pace slightly, I might get it done by the time of the 50th anniversary.

Day Twenty: The Character Who Is Most Like You

Linx from the Time Warrior, of course! Well, no probably not really,  whatever wild claims I may have made in the past. And not the Master, either. Fortunately. ;D While being a droll supervillain may have its appeal, it has its cons too and I don't think anyone would really want to be like the Master, or indeed that there are many like him about and at liberty. This may require some thought...

Rambly musings follow... )

So, I've been rather ill-advisedly watching this programme "Outcasts" on BBC iPlayer. It is (or was) a sort of SF drama about colonists settling on an uninhabited (or is it?!) Earth-like planet, and to be honest, it wasn't really that good. In terms of themes and general style, it was sort of a lacklustre British knock-off of the rebooted Battlestar Galactica, but not as well written or acted (despite having an okay sort of cast, really). But anyway, for some reason I felt compelled to stick with it through all eight episodes, and kind of got to know the characters and then, in the last episode, the story suddenly gets a bit faster-paced and actually a bit interesting, and it all ends on this whopping cliffhanger.

So naturally, I discover now that the Beeb have cancelled it after one series and I'll never get to know how the cliffhanger pans out. This irks me.

I've heard of the Random Pairing Generator, the They Fight Crime generator, even the Random Thriller Title Generator, but...

nine.frenchboys.net/war.php

...the Random War Generator?!

jjpor: (Master 2)

A recent post on [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook's journal caused me to reflect that my childhood, and indeed those of many British people about my age, was a strange time. This sort of strange:

Although the similarities might be there, if I'm honest. Apart from the paramilitary group thing - that sounds like hard work... XD

I don't presume to call it a meme, because to be a meme it has to be adopted by others, and then spread, but something for members of my flist with too much time on their hands:

1, Go to this link:
http://www.koveras.org/thriller/

2. Randomly generate one (1) cheesy made-up thriller title

3. Write a drabble for your fandom of choice that in some way relates to the title generated. Be warned, some of them are a bit...non-obvious

4. If you're not fed up yet, repeat until you are!

Here's my first effort... )

...is one of the vaguely cheesy fake thriller titles I got from this generator here:

http://www.koveras.org/thriller/

I don't know if any of you have seen it before, but I thought I'd share. It kept me amused for a bit anyway. ;D
